CELEBRATING 27 YEARS: A Note of Appreciation
The 2007-2008 exhibition season is here and we are now back in full swing at the gallery. Thank you all for your support since Katrina.
It was a solemn event in the city but Hope was the guest of honor. Interfaith prayer services were held at our beautiful St. Louis Cathedral and a ringing of the bells followed in Jackson Square and all around the city and other areas in the region affected by the storm.
The message was clear. We are coming back and rebuilding our beloved city and communities.
We are still a tale of two cities.
Many of our historic neighborhoods are beautiful once more. Magazine Street, St. Charles Avenue and the French Quarter are vibrant and alive. Many restaurants, galleries and shops are open and thriving but you can actually find a parking place downtown!
Much of the Lakefront, Lakeview, the Lower 9th ward, New Orleans East , Gentilly and Mid City are in various stages of recovery. But there will be a recovery....
The resilience and faith of the people in our city is remarkable. Those that are here and rebuilding their homes are inspirational and seem to have a deep apprectaion for our city and for one another. We realize what is truly important now and we cherish it.
Standing in line at a local coffee shop on Magazine Street one morning, I was struck at the diversity of individuals waiting in line for their morning brew. Everyone was busy talking and laughing and generally seemed quite comfortable with those around them.

Business men and women, Katrina volunteer workers, artists, writers, retirees, tourists, Tulane professors, mothers with small children, youngish people with tattoos and piercing and...
me.
