Jean Cappadonna-Nichols

The approach to my work is very much that of the formalist: I try to utilize the elements of visual art to achieve the best results. Of equal importance to me, is the employment of these elements to communicate an idea based on content. Most of the time, I use humor to entice the viewer into the piece, but with the hope that they will see, relate or feel other emotions as they look further. The human figure continues to hold my interest as the primary imagery in my work due to my continuing infatuation with the exploration of the human condition.

While much of the visual language I use may not be understood, it is my intention that the work might be enjoyed on multiple levels. Like a good mystery writer, I enjoy throwing in a "red herring" or two just to keep things stirred up.
